Being somewhat techno-philic, I have a Treo 650 for a phone. Also, I am busy as shit so it helps to keep track of my various places I am supposed to be and tells me when to be there. So, it has been a nice meeting of function and gadget-lust. One of the features that I have never really done much with (until now) has been the musical capability of my phone. See, I can use the damn thing like an iPod. I only figured that out about a few months ago, and even then, it was a slow process to get me to the point where I actually did use it as one. Well, sisters, let me tell you: I have arrived.
Oh, the grandeur! I bought myself a little cheap pair of headphones (that way, totally disposable if I decided I didn’t like the function). Now, as I was going on a fabulous trip to
Today was the real test: I took it on my walk. Set my songlist to Scissor Sisters, and off I went. I boogied on down to the Backwoods Discotheque, twice, I stepped aside for the man, pretty good sound, some occasional crackles as the phone flopped and jounced in my pocket, but all in all, a wonderful little trip. The temptations I had to resist, however, mainly consisted of trying not to sing or dance or laugh as funny little lines roared through my ears. I also was hesitant at first to eliminate one of my important walking senses: hearing. See, cars like to just mow your shit down if you don’t pay attention, so since I have just garnered a newfound appreciation of life, a rediscovered sense of joie de vie, I was not in a particular hurry to have it squashed out of me by some prick in an Escalade. However, I was able to strike a harmonious balance between the audio pumping through my skull and the outer atmosphere. To wit, I am whole and hale as you may witness by me writing this for you, my beloved readers. A possible side benefit was that I think I also managed to raise my heart rate into the aerobically useful zone, thus paving the way for me to achieve my life-long goal of not being a fat sack of dog shit. And yes, for those of you wondering, I have been drinking. But only a little. It’s the sleeping pill on top of that which is really making me wacky. ;)
